Authorities in Burhanpur have suspended a government school teacher and an examination centre head after a photograph of a Class 10 English question paper was shared online during the board exam on Tuesday, triggering an official probe. District officials clarified that the incident did not constitute a paper leak and said the examination proceeded without disruption.
The episode occurred at Tukaithad Higher Secondary School, where the teacher allegedly photographed the question paper and posted it on her WhatsApp status shortly after the test began. Administrators said the image appeared online at about 9:35 am, prompting immediate intervention by district authorities.
According to officials, students had entered the centre by 8:40 am and question papers were distributed as scheduled. Investigators said the teacher admitted she captured the image at 9:06 am from a paper placed on the desk of an absent candidate. She allegedly forwarded the photo to an acquaintance with the intention of obtaining answers that could later be used to assist examinees.
District administrators acted swiftly once alerted. Senior officials visited the centre, questioned staff, and ordered disciplinary action. Both the teacher and the centre superintendent were suspended for negligence and violation of examination protocols. The teacher was also sent to a local police station for further questioning, officials confirmed.
Authorities emphasised that the incident did not compromise the integrity of the examination. They stated that because the image was taken after the paper had already been distributed, it could not be classified as a leak under examination rules. No irregularities were reported inside examination halls, and the test concluded on schedule.
Education officials described the matter as a breach of conduct rather than a systemic failure. They said strict guidelines prohibit any photography or electronic transmission of question papers and warned that further disciplinary or legal action could follow depending on the outcome of the inquiry.
The case has drawn attention to monitoring measures at examination centres across Madhya Pradesh. Administrators indicated that additional vigilance instructions may be issued to prevent similar incidents during the ongoing board examination season.
