US lawmakers warn Trump’s mistakes may harm India-US ties

Lawmakers cautioned that Donald Trump’s mistakes could set back India-US relations by 20 years, urging careful diplomacy.

US President Donald Trump's tariff policies have increased tensions in India-US relations. Democrat MP Ro Khanna held an emergency conference call with former diplomats and industrialists in which emphasis was laid on saving the relationship. Rich Verma said that Trump's policies ruined 25 years of hard work.

US President Donald Trump's new tariff policies and diplomatic mistakes have put the relationship built with 25 years of hard work between India and America at risk.

A prominent Democrat MP and several former US diplomats have warned that if this situation does not improve, the partnership between the two countries could be seriously damaged.

An emergency conference call was called to discuss this issue, in which a voice was raised to save the importance of India-US relations.

It was organized by MP Ro Khanna, co-chairman of the Congressional India Caucus. Former US ambassadors Rich Verma and Eric Garcetti as well as industrialist Vinod Khosla and tech leaders of Indian origin participated in it. This call is proof of how anxious the Indian-American community is about this relationship.

It is necessary to sound the alarm to save the relationship

Ro Khanna clearly said, "I would not have called this call unless the matter was serious. We need to sound the alarm to save this relationship." Khanna had earlier expressed concern over the deterioration in India-US relations in a video on X (formerly Twitter). His initiative clearly shows how seriously he is taking this issue.

Former ambassadors who participated in this call also underlined the seriousness of the situation. Rich Verma said that Trump's policies in the last two months have destroyed 25 years of hard work.

Mention of Bill Clinton's visit to India
He mentioned the visit of then President Bill Clinton to India in 2000, when the US had decided to separate India-Pakistan policy. This laid the foundation for cooperation between the two countries in areas such as trade, people-to-people relations, clean energy and defense.
