Alexander Stubb says he won’t put India in same basket as Russia; Finland’s President calls India an 'emerging superpower'

Close ties with Trump
Stubb is known as a close associate of US President Donald Trump. Their friendship reportedly strengthened during a seven-hour golf round at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida in March.
Analysts say Stubb is among a select group of European leaders whose opinions carry major influence over Trump’s foreign policy decisions. Experts note that no other leader from a small European country has received such access before.

Nations must respect India

Last month Stub said, that Western nations need to show greater respect and cooperation in dealings with India. He warned that failing to do so could undermine America’s position in global geopolitics.

SCO summit reference

Stubb also referred to Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Tianjin, China, attended by Prime Minister Modi.

Said, the meeting served as a reminder to Western countries of the high stakes involved in regional and global diplomacy.

India’s role in ending Ukraine conflict

India’s crucial role in ending the Russia-Ukraine war, Stub said that, "I have discussed the Ukraine situation with PM Modi. India has a geopolitical interest in this, so we need to involve them in peace efforts."

He also suggested that the peace process in Ukraine should begin with a ceasefire, followed by a formal meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Stubb also stressed that economic sanctions on Russia should continue while military aid to Ukraine should be increased.
