Bangladesh govt bans airing Sheikh Hasina’s statements on TV

The Yunus government in Bangladesh has imposed strict restrictions, warning of action against TV channels that broadcast statements of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, drawing criticism of dictatorial control.

The interim government of Bangladesh on Friday warned media organizations against broadcasting or propagating the statements of Awami League leader and ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. It has also said that legal action will be taken against those who violate the order. The statement issued said, "We are warning the media officials involved in such criminal propaganda activities."

Do not propagate Sheikh Hasina's statements
The statement issued said, "We are warning the media officials involved in such criminal propaganda activities. If anyone broadcasts Sheikh Hasina's statements in future, immediate legal action will be taken." The announcement said that broadcasting and propagating Hasina's audio on television channels, news and online portals is a serious violation of the Anti-Terrorism Act 2009. Hasina has been described as a convicted criminal and a fugitive accused of mass murders and crimes against humanity.

Hasina is being tried

Hasina, who was deposed on August 5, 2024, is being tried in absentia at the International Crimes Tribunal on several charges.

Pakistan Foreign Minister to visit Bangladesh

Meanwhile, Pakistan Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Friday confirmed that he will visit Bangladesh on Saturday. Dar said he is set to visit Dhaka on a two-day visit to bring Pakistan and Bangladesh closer.

The Foreign Office said he will hold meetings with various leaders, including Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus and Foreign Affairs Advisor Mohammad Tauhid Hussain.
