Iran's FM Might Visit India for BRICS Meeting

Abbas Araghchi could be in Delhi on May 14-15 to talk about Middle East peace

Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is expected to visit India this month for a BRICS meeting on May 14-15 in New Delhi. If he comes, it'll be his first trip to India since the tensions between Iran and the US started heating up. Iran wants to use this visit to get international support for bringing peace to the Middle East.

The timing is really important right now since Iran is facing off with the United States and trying to find ways to make peace. Araghchi wants to use India's role in BRICS to convince other major countries to help de-escalate tensions in the region.

Why BRICS Matters to Iran

China is really concerned about the Strait of Hormuz—a shipping channel where a lot of oil passes through the region. Since China buys huge amounts of oil from this area, any fighting there directly affects China's ability to get the oil it needs.
