Kerala Community in Dubai Faces Backlash for Welcoming Shahid Afridi Amid Anti-India Remarks

Uninvited Appearance by Former Pakistani Cricketer at Cultural Event Sparks Social Media Outrage

Kerala Community in Dubai Faces Backlash for Welcoming Shahid Afridi Amid Anti-India Remarks

A Kerala community in Dubai is under fire after a viral video showed former Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi being warmly received at their cultural event. The backlash stems from Afridi's recent derogatory comments about the Indian Army following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives. The event organizers, the Cochin University B.Tech Alumni Association (CUBAA), clarified that Afridi's appearance was unplanned and coincidental, as he was attending a separate event at the same venue.

The Kerala community living in Dubai has recently been facing intense criticism on social media. They warmly welcomed former Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi at an event, which proved to be controversial. The controversy erupted when Afridi commented on the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir on April 22, in which 26 citizens of India lost their lives. After this, India destroyed terrorist hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir under Operation Sindoor.

In a video that went viral on social media, when Afridi reached the stage, people of the community stopped the cultural presentation of the program and welcomed him with slogans of "Boom Boom". On the stage, Afridi said that he loves India, especially the part of Kerala and its food. He jokingly said, "Ho Gaya Boom Boom."

Afridi's controversial statement on Pahalgam attack

Afridi recently took a dig at India during a conversation on Pakistan's Sama TV. He said that even if firecrackers burst in India, Pakistan is blamed for it. Along with this, he also criticized the Indian Army, saying that despite having 8 lakh soldiers in Kashmir, the situation is not improving, which makes it clear that they have failed to provide security. Apart from this, Afridi termed the reporting of Indian media as "Bollywood drama" and indirectly took a dig at Indian cricketers as well. The responsibility for the terrorist attack in Pahalgam has been taken by 'The Resistance Front (TRF)', which is related to the banned Pakistani terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba.
