Musk Returns to Trump’s Camp Within Six Months, Drops Third-Party Plan and Signals Fresh Political Alliance

Elon Musk has re-entered the political orbit of U.S. President Donald Trump, reversing his six-month-old confrontation and abandoning his plan to launch a new political party. The Tesla and SpaceX chief made his return public during a series of high-profile engagements in Washington, D.C., including a state dinner on November 18 in honor of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman

Musk’s latest appearance marks a sharp shift from the tensions that erupted in May, when he left Washington after objecting to the Trump administration’s handling of the Big Beautiful Bill and the withdrawal of his ally Jared Isaacman’s nomination for NASA Administrator. Musk had accused Trump of withholding documents related to Jeffrey Epstein and vowed to challenge the Republican Party through a new “America Party.”

The recalibration began after Trump reinstated Isaacman’s nomination for NASA chief and reassigned senior White House official Sergio Gorewhom Musk considered an obstacle to the ambassadorship in India. The moves eased friction and reopened communication channels.

Musk’s renewed proximity to the White House was evident during his participation in the U.S.–Saudi Investment Forum on November 19, where he posed for photographs alongside Trump and Prince Salman. He has also pledged financial support for Republican candidates in the 2026 midterm elections, signaling his return as a major political donor.

The rapprochement follows an informal conversation between the two at a memorial service in September for conservative activist Charlie Kirk. It was their first interaction since Musk resigned from the Department of Government Efficiency (DoGE), a post he received after contributing nearly ₹25 billion ($300 million) to Trump’s 2024 campaign.

Musk’s political team is now hosting a two-day DOGE reunion event in Austin, suggesting a broader effort to rebuild ties and reassert influence within Trump’s governing circle.
