PM Modi to Meet Xi After 7 Years at SCO Summit

PM Modi and President Xi Jinping to shake hands for the first time in 7 years during the SCO Summit; Russian President Putin also to attend.
This time the biggest SCO summit in history is being organized in China. More than 20 countries are participating in it. Along with Modi and Putin, leaders from Central Asia, Middle East, South Asia and South-East Asia will also attend this summit. After the summit, PM Modi will meet Chinese President Jinping, while his meeting with Russian President Putin is scheduled on Monday.
China's response has come before the meeting of the two leaders. Chinese Ambassador Shu Feihong has warmly welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Tianjin. He said that this visit of PM Modi will bring new energy and speed in the relations between the two countries. Shu Feihong wrote on the social media platform X, 'Welcome Prime Minister Modi to China. We are confident that this visit will give new direction and new momentum to China-India relations.
Why is Modi's China visit special?
According to Global Times, this visit of PM Modi can prove to be a big opportunity to reduce tensions between the two countries and promote bilateral talks. Through this summit, Jinping will try to show the world that he can give an alternative to the US-led global order. Along with this, this summit will also send the message that the US efforts to isolate China, Russia, Iran and now India have failed.
SCO Summit 2025: Know the full schedule
Sunday (31 August 2025)
There will be a bilateral meeting with the President of China from 12:00 pm to 12:40 pm.
Another bilateral meeting is scheduled from 5:00 pm to 5:45 pm.
An official welcome ceremony will be organized for the heads of state and government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm.
Monday (1 September 2025)
There will be a meeting of SCO leaders from 10:00 am to 11:40 am.
Bilateral meeting with the President of Russia is proposed from 12:15 pm to 1:00 pm.
PM Modi will depart for Delhi at 1:40 pm.
