Team India Creates History: Wins Women’s ODI World Cup for the First Time

Team India has become the Women’s ODI World Champion for the first time, scripting a golden chapter in Indian cricket. In the final played at the DY Patil Stadium, India defeated South Africa by 52 runs to lift the prestigious trophy.

Batting first, the Indian team put up a strong total of 298/7 in 50 overs. In reply, South Africa were bowled out for 246 runs, as the Indian bowlers maintained complete control in the second innings.


Verma–Mandhana Set the Platform, Deepti Stars with All-Round Show

Openers Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana provided India a solid start with a 104-run opening partnership.

  • Mandhana scored a steady 45 runs off 58 balls.

  • Shafali Verma, who narrowly missed a century, smashed 87 runs off 78 balls, including 7 fours and 2 sixes.

Chasing 299, South Africa also made a confident start with Tazmin Brits and Laura Wolvaardt adding 51 runs for the first wicket.

  • Brits scored 23 off 35 balls

  • Anneke Bosch departed for a duck

  • Sune Luus (35) and Sinalo Jafta (16) tried to stabilize the innings

Skipper Laura Wolvaardt stood tall, smashing a brilliant 101 off 98 balls with 11 boundaries and a six, but lacked support from the other end. She was dismissed thanks to a sharp catch by Amanjot Kaur.

India’s bowling hero was Deepti Sharma, who delivered a match-winning spell, taking 5 wickets and sealing the historic victory.
