Trump Claims He Stopped Eight Wars, Says He Deserves Multiple Nobel Peace Prizes

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday claimed that his leadership had prevented at least eight major wars across the world, asserting that he deserved a Nobel Peace Prize for each conflict he said he helped avert. The remarks were made at the White House as Trump marked one year of his second presidential term, using the occasion to defend his foreign policy, tariff decisions and approach to global security.

Addressing reporters, Trump said the United States had played a decisive role in de-escalating conflicts that could have spiralled into large-scale wars, including tensions between India and Pakistan. He claimed the situation between the two nuclear-armed neighbours had reached a “very dangerous point” and suggested his intervention helped prevent a potential nuclear confrontation. “I stopped eight wars in 10 months. If judged fairly, I should get a Nobel for each one,” Trump said, adding that even recent Nobel laureates knew he “really deserved it”.

India, however, has consistently rejected third-party mediation in its disputes with Pakistan. Indian officials have maintained that de-escalation following recent tensions occurred through direct military communication between the two sides. According to official statements from New Delhi, Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations contacted his Indian counterpart on May 10 after India launched Operation Sindoor in response to the Pahalgam terror attack.905

Trump also reiterated his belief that the Nobel Peace Prize process was politically influenced, claiming Norway held sway over the decision. The Norwegian government has repeatedly clarified that the prize is awarded by an independent committee, not by the state.906

Beyond conflict mediation, Trump defended his aggressive tariff policy, saying it had generated “hundreds of billions of dollars” for the US and strengthened national security. He said he was uncertain how the Supreme Court would rule in pending cases challenging his tariff decisions, warning that any reversal could harm ordinary Americans.

The president also criticised international institutions, arguing that organisations such as the United Nations and NATO had underperformed despite their potential. He claimed no other US president had done more for NATO, while questioning whether alliance members would support the US in a crisis. Trump announced plans for a new initiative, referred to as a “Board of Peace,” which he said would enhance global and national security.

Trump’s comments came amid protests in several US cities, where demonstrators criticised his trade policies, immigration enforcement measures and growing distance from multilateral institutions. Protesters accused the administration of isolating the US internationally.

Despite the criticism, Trump maintained that his policies had made America safer and more influential, insisting history would ultimately vindicate his record.
