Trump preparing to enter Bangladesh: Sheikh Hasina accused US of regime change in Dhaka over this island
Digital Desk
President Donald Trump is now preparing to enter Bangladesh. Trump has planned to build a resort (Riviera) on Bangladesh’s eastern St. Martin’s Island.
A special zone will be designated for foreigners here. According to sources, the Bangladesh government’s chief advisor, Muhammad Yunus, recently met Trump in New York, where they discussed the St. Martin’s Island project.
Yunus also met Trump’s special advisor for Asian affairs, Sergio Gor. During that meeting, too, they discussed developing the island into a resort project for the United States.
It is reported that Bangladesh's interim government will first lease Saint Martin's Island. This lease will be for 99 years. In this regard, declared and undeclared agreements have been made between the governments of Bangladesh and the US. The interim government will not even need parliamentary approval to lease Saint Martin's Island to the US, because the parliament is currently suspended in Bangladesh. The interim government can make decisions at its own discretion with the consent of the army.
Saint Martin location
The location of Saint Martin Island is extremely important. Saint Martin Island, spread over 9 sq km in the Bay of Bengal, is located approximately 8 km away from the mainland of Bangladesh. About three and a half thousand people live here. To the south of Saint Martin Island is also the Strait of Malacca. Cargo ships from Southeast Asia and China pass through this strait.
According to an estimate, approximately 30% of the world's cargo transportation takes place through the Strait of Malacca. Trump's plan is to increase American presence here by building resorts. These resorts will be quite similar to Trump's resorts in Gaza. Trump's real estate companies may be given the work to develop infrastructure on Saint Martin Island.
Former Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina was against giving Saint Martin's Island to America. Hasina had stated multiple times that the then Biden government and before that Trump were exerting political pressure to hand over Saint Martin's Island to America.
Plan B
Trump is also working on Plan B regarding Bangladesh. This includes building a US Naval Base in Cox's Bazar, located on the mainland approximately 120 km east of Saint Martin's Island. In Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh has currently allowed China to station two submarines. In this regard, in September itself, the US Navy fleet also conducted exercises with the Bangladeshi Navy in the Bay of Bengal in the Cox's Bazar area.
