Why Trump fears China: US Foreign Minister explains stance on Russian oil purchases
Digital Desk
The US Foreign Minister revealed why America is not banning Russian oil imports, linking the decision to concerns over China’s growing influence and its impact on global energy security.
The US has adopted a double standard with India in the matter of buying oil from Russia. Up to 50% tariffs have been imposed on India while China has been exempted from any kind of ban on buying Russian oil. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio admitted that imposing sanctions on China could cause turmoil in the global oil market.
Rubio said in a conversation with Fox News that if China is banned from refining Russian oil, then oil prices may skyrocket.
He said that European countries are also unhappy with such sanctions. Rubio said, "China will refine Russian oil and sell it in the global market, due to which oil will become expensive or another way will have to be found." Tariff hits India
The US took a tough stand against India and first imposed a 25 percent tariff, which has now been increased to 50 percent. This step was taken because India is buying cheap oil from Russia.
Rubio said on Fox Radio that India's purchase of oil from Russia is "promoting the Russian war" and this is the "reason for bitterness" in US-India relations. However, he also admitted that India's energy needs are huge and it is dependent on cheap Russian oil.
India has termed this attitude of the US as "double standards". New Delhi made it clear that it will not stop buying oil from Russia. India says that when China is buying Russian oil without any restriction, then it is wrong for the US to be strict on India.
What is the real matter?
This whole issue is a part of global politics and the war for oil. On the one hand, the US wants to weaken Russia, but is avoiding taking on a big player like China. India, which is supporting Russia for its energy needs, is a thorn in the eyes of America.
