“A Fruit Tree in Every Courtyard”: Miam Charitable Trust’s Green Mission
Jagran Desk
At a time when rapid urbanization and deforestation continue to disrupt the ecological balance, the Miam Charitable Trust has launched a transformative initiative titled “A Fruit Tree in Every Courtyard.”
This movement is not just about planting trees but about fostering harmony between people, nature, and wildlife while also addressing the nutritional needs of vulnerable communities.
The program began in Vadalapeth village, Aheri tehsil, Gadchiroli district (Maharashtra) and is now setting an example of sustainable development across rural and urban landscapes. Unlike typical plantation drives, the Trust is planting 4–5-year-old fruit-bearing trees and pledging their upkeep for 7–8 years, ensuring that the initiative delivers long-term ecological and social impact.
More Than a Plantation Drive – A Community Lifeline
These fruit trees are designed to serve multiple purposes:
-
Provide nutrition for children and expecting mothers in villages
-
Create food and shelter for birds and wildlife, reducing human-animal conflicts
-
Strengthen the green cover to help restore biodiversity and climate balance
By cultivating natural food sources inside forests, the initiative aims to prevent wild animals from straying into human settlements in search of food, thereby safeguarding both communities and wildlife.
Where the Movement is Taking Root
-
Village homes and courtyards: Enhancing local nutrition and food security
-
Schools and campuses: Encouraging environmental responsibility among children
-
Urban neighborhoods like Mumbai: Partnering with the BMC to expand green spaces
-
Forests of Gadchiroli: Supporting wildlife conservation in natural habitats
A Commitment That Lasts
Explaining the mission, representatives of the Trust emphasized:
“We are not simply planting saplings; we are nurturing grown fruit trees and taking responsibility for their care over several years. This is not a one-day event – it is a movement for real change.”
Balancing Growth with Ecology
The Trust firmly believes that development and environment must progress together. This initiative interlinks public health, nutrition, ecological stability, and wildlife protection through one powerful idea: planting fruit trees wherever possible.
With the message “Small steps bring big changes – plant a tree, save a life,” Miam Charitable Trust is calling on citizens, schools, NGOs, and administrations to join hands in building a greener, healthier, and more sustainable future.
