Lands in Delhi hiding in airplane’s landing gear: ‘wanted to see what it felt like’; 13-year-old says deported back to Kabul on the same flight

On Sunday, September 21, 13-year-old boy from Afghanistan came to India, hiding in the plane's landing gear. Afghanistan's KAM Airlines flight RQ-4401 departed from Kabul's Hamid Karzai Airport at 8:46 AM Indian time and landed at Terminal 3 of Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport at 10:20 AM. Airline staff found a boy near the flight. They immediately informed the authorities.

On Monday, officials reported that the boy had entered Kabul airport and somehow managed to get into the rear landing gear compartment of the aircraft. The aircraft was declared safe after a complete inspection. The boy was sent back to Afghanistan on the same flight that day.

Everyone were amazed that the boy reached Delhi alive. Because the landing gear compartment is located in the lowest part of the aircraft. It contains safety equipment, brake system and hydraulic pipes.

At such high altitude (about 30,000 feet or 9 kilometers), the temperature is below zero and oxygen levels are very low.

The survival rate in such hiding attempts is extremely low, with only about 20% surviving worldwide.

During the security check, a small red speaker was also found in the landing gear compartment, which the boy had kept with him.

CISF took the boy into custody and handed him over to the police. The boy told authorities that he did it out of curiosity. He wanted to see what it was like. The boy is from the city of Kunduz in Afghanistan.
