Microplastics May Raise Alzheimer’s Risk

New study reveals microplastics could increase the risk of Alzheimer’s, surprising researchers and health experts.

Do you know that plastic is now entering our body and harming our brain as well? A recent research has revealed a shocking fact that the small plastic particles around us, called micro and nano plastics, can cause serious diseases like Alzheimer's.

In today's world, plastic has become such a part of our lives that it is almost impossible to avoid it completely. Very small particles of plastic are present in water bottles, packaging, food items and even in the air. These are called micro and nano plastics. A recent study has indicated that these invisible plastic particles can also have a serious effect on our brain and can increase the risk of diseases like Alzheimer's.

How do microplastics reach the body?

Scientists say that these particles enter the body through many ways in our daily life.

The water we drink often contains microplastics.

It also reaches the body through packaging and processed food items.

Even the plastic particles present in the air with the breath enter our body.

Danger of reaching the brain

Researchers from the University of Rhode Island, America, studied this in depth. They found that these small plastic particles do not only remain in the stomach or blood, but reach all the systems of the body. The most worrying thing is that they can also accumulate in the brain. When this happens, it can have a negative impact on the functioning of the brain and gradually cause problems like memory loss and cognitive decline.

Relationship with Alzheimer's

The research included mice that were specially designed in such a way that the APOE4 gene was present in them. This gene is considered a major indicator of Alzheimer's disease. People who have this gene are at many times more risk than normal people. The study revealed that exposure to micro plastic can further increase the risk of Alzheimer's in such individuals.

What do experts say?

According to the researchers, this study is a serious warning. Lifestyle and environmental factors already have a profound impact on our health. Now it is becoming clear that plastic pollution is also one of those dangerous causes, which can gradually lead to brain-related diseases.

Scientists believe that more detailed research is needed on this subject. At present, it is clear that micro and nano plastics have become a big threat not only to the environment but also to our health. In the future, it will be very important to find ways to avoid them and reduce their impact.
