Developing a Chaos Resistant Mindset

The world we live in today is extremely chaotic because of various reasons. Internet research shows that ‘Today’s world feels chaotic due to interconnected global challenges like climate change, political instability, rapid technological shifts, and information overload, creating widespread uncertainty and stress, making it crucial for individuals to find grounding through self-care, acceptance, and focusing on controllable actions.

In this chaotic world, we need to find a way to survive and succeed while keeping the best of physical and mental health. This is the core purpose of developing a chaos resistant mindset.

As you know, negative and challenging situations are part and parcel of life itself. The crux lies on how we as individuals react to these situations and deal with them. The one truth is that neither of these situations last forever, they go with time. However, chaos can leave huge psychological and mental health collateral damage, which can tend to harm you over time. Developing a new mindset is a task indeed. It’s like re-mapping your entire psyche and behaviour. Believe me, most of us are really born hardwired with inbuilt values and beliefs. But our brain is open for a reboot and reset with conscious sustained efforts.

Here are a few basics to cultivate a Chaos Resistant Mindset-

Understand and embrace Chaos

Chaos is a five-letter word and comprises of five different elements- uncertainty, unpredictability, high pressure, changing commitments and self-doubt. To expand further – nothing is certain and stable anymore, you may have worked extremely hard and shown results, but everything can change the very next day. With the Beta generation predictability is not possible, so you need to really be on your toes to cope with them as a target customer or audience. The pressure to deliver quickly and with the highest quality remains at full throttle. Slow down a bit and it hits you hard. Rapid market changes do not make commitments fool proof as adaptability and quick realignment drives it all today. When foundations tremble, self-doubt gets triggered, if you don’t watch out it can hit your confidence and motivation levels immensely. So, it’s critical to understand chaos in its true sense, put it on top of your list and embrace it.

 Self-audit on resisting chaos

Before even test driving this new mindset conduct a self-audit on how you handle chaos. This self-audit should be brutally real or you will end up, setting yourself for up for failure. Analyse your inherent strengths during a chaotic situation, then your weaknesses. If your weaknesses outweigh your strengths, you need to carefully evaluate how you can reduce these weaknesses substantially. Be practical and grounded. Choose 10 real well wishers of yours. Prepare a questionnaire on your strengths and weaknesses in terms of attempting to resist chaos. Do not discuss these with them when they are responding to your questionnaire as it may affect the authenticity of their responses. The best way out is to call them on the phone and explain the purpose of this research and send them your questionnaire by message and wait for their response. Once you get their responses analyse them carefully compared to your self-analysis, then create an average of your findings. Use these findings as a road map for your journey of cultivation of this important mindset.

If you leap, keep close track of your flight

Any change, especially mindset change is a very mapped out series of goals. Your change has to be gradual, and should not be sudden. In fact, it’s great to do a test flight for the first 15 days and then check the effectiveness of your chaos resistance. If your change is just not happening just stop your journey otherwise you begin a journey of self-frustration. However, if you even achieve 10% of self-transformation, ensure you keep at it. As I have said several times in my past articles, appoint a transformation buddy who helps you get there.

Wish you every success!
