Haritalika Teej will be celebrated tomorrow i.e. on 26th August. The fast of Haritalika Teej is considered to be a very difficult fast, especially because it involves Nirjala fasting, that is, one has to stay without drinking water for 24 hours. In such a situation, it naturally affects the body, especially the problem of dehydration. But if you prepare carefully, the fast can be completed with full devotion and without harming health. Here are some useful tips so that you can keep the fast of Haritalika Teej while avoiding dehydration.
Preparation before the fast (Hartalika Teej 2025)
Drink as much water as possible: Drink plenty of water a day before the fast and especially a few hours before the fast starts. You can also take coconut water, lemonade and electrolytes.
Eat hydrating foods: Eat foods like cucumber, watermelon, papaya, orange, curd and buttermilk. These help in retaining water in the body.
Take salt and sugar in balanced amounts: Both of these help in retaining water in the body. Taking electrolytes (ORS or salt-sugar water) before fasting is very beneficial.
During the fast -
Avoid sunlight: The body gets dehydrated quickly due to direct sunlight. Stay in a cool place at home.
Do not do physical exertion: Walking too much, climbing stairs or doing heavy work can cause excessive sweating, which can lead to dehydration.
Rest and meditate: Take rest to save energy. Concentrate on bhajans, kathas and puja.
Maintain mental peace: Stress also increases dehydration. So keep the brain calm and maintain positive thinking.
While breaking the fast (Hartalika Teej 2025)
Start with lukewarm water: First of all drink one or two sips of lukewarm water. After this, slowly take coconut water or ORS.
