Monsoon Care for Newborns: Simple Tips to Prevent Infections and Virals
Lifestyle
The rainy season brings increased risk of viral infections for newborns. Learn easy and effective ways to safeguard your baby's health during monsoon – from hygiene practices to clothing and home environment.
The monsoon season is especially sensitive for newborns. Bacterial, viral and fungal infections spread rapidly due to humidity at this time, and since the immune system of newborns is not fully developed, they are quickly surrounded by diseases. Today we will share some important precautions and measures by which parents can protect their newborn from viral infection during monsoon.
Ways to protect the newborn from viral infection in monsoon
Take full care of hygiene
It is important to wash hands before and after touching the baby. Always keep the things around the newborn (clothes, sheets, towels, toys) clean. If someone in the house has a cold, keep a distance from the child.
Dress in light and cotton clothes
Sweat and wetness due to humidity increases fungal infection. Cotton and light clothes allow the baby's skin to breathe and make it feel cool and pleasant.
Recognize the symptoms of infection immediately
If the baby has fever, skin rashes, cough or irritability, contact the doctor immediately.
Keep the bedding and environment dry and clean
Change the bedsheet daily and dry it in the sun. There should be good ventilation to avoid moisture in the room.
Continue breastfeeding
Mother's milk strengthens the baby's immunity. It provides natural antibodies that help fight infections.
Mosquito prevention is important
The number of mosquitoes increases during monsoon which can cause viral diseases (such as dengue, malaria).
Put a mosquito net around the baby, and use mosquito repellent products cautiously.
Use AC or cooler in a balanced manner
Do not make the room too cold. Keep the temperature normal and comfortable.
