Monsoon Immunity Boost: Right Diet & Health Tips for Kids

Worried about your child's health during the rainy season? Strengthen their immunity with the right monsoon diet, proper hygiene, and essential precautions. Learn what to include and avoid to keep infections at bay and ensure a healthy monsoon for your little ones.

As much as the monsoon season is relaxing and pleasant, it also brings the risk of infections and diseases. This time is especially challenging for children, because their immunity is not fully developed.

Moisture, dirt and dirty water give bacteria and viruses a chance to thrive in monsoon, which increases the risk of food poisoning, cold, dengue, malaria, viral fever and stomach infections in children. In such a situation, it is very important to know how to take care of children's health during monsoon.

1. Give fresh and light home-made food (Monsoon Child Health Care Tip)

Do not give fried, outside food and street food at all.

Give freshly cooked, easily digestible food like khichdi, moong dal, soup, dal-rice, boiled vegetables etc.

Why: The digestive system slows down in monsoon. Light food puts less burden on the body.

2. Avoid outside water and open juices (Monsoon Child Health Care Tip)
Give children only boiled or filtered water.

Do not let them eat open juices, cut fruits or ice cream.

Why: All these things become a major cause of spreading infection through bacteria and viruses.

3. Give immunity-boosting foods (Monsoon Child Health Care Tip)

Give fruits rich in vitamin C like amla, orange, kiwi, lemon etc.

Give turmeric milk and basil-ginger decoction occasionally.

Dry fruits like soaked almonds and walnuts are beneficial.

4. Be careful while consuming dairy products (Monsoon Child Health Care Tip)
Give milk after boiling it thoroughly.

Do not give cold curd or paneer directly from the fridge – first bring it to normal temperature.

Why: Cold dairy products can cause cold and digestive problems.

5. Protection from mosquitoes is very important (Monsoon Child Health Care Tip)
Make children wear full sleeve clothes.

Use mosquito net while sleeping and mosquito repellent during the day.

Why: Diseases like dengue, malaria, chikungunya are spread by mosquitoes.

6. Pay special attention to cleanliness (Monsoon Child Health Care Tip)
Clean children's hands with soap or sanitizer several times a day.

Make it a habit to wash hands before eating and after coming from outside.
