Jammu and Kashmir Police Launch Major Crackdown, Arrest Radicalised Youth with Pakistan Links

In a significant security operation, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have launched a coordinated crackdown on supporters of the banned terrorist organisation Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) across multiple districts, leading to the arrest of a 19-year-old for allegedly planning a terrorist attack.

Multi-District Search Operations

Police teams conducted simultaneous raids at the residences of several individuals linked to JeI in the south and central Kashmir districts of Shopian, Pulwama, Kulgam, Anantnag, and Baramulla, as well as in Srinagar. During these searches, officials seized numerous documents, mobile phones, and laptops for further investigation. The operation involved verifying and questioning several individuals as part of the ongoing probe into the banned outfit's activities.

Youth Arrested in Jammu for Terror Conspiracy

In a separate but related development, Jammu police arrested a 19-year-old youth from the Bathindi area, who originally hails from Reasi district. The arrest was made on charges of involvement in a conspiracy for terrorist activities.

A police spokesperson revealed that preliminary investigations indicate the accused had been radicalised online and was in the advanced stages of planning a terrorist attack. The probe further uncovered that he was in contact with several foreign numbers, including numbers from Pakistan.

"A case has been registered at the Bahu Fort Police Station, and his digital devices have been seized for forensic examination to uncover the full extent of the network," the spokesperson stated.

Background of the Crackdown

This widespread action appears to be part of a continued effort to dismantle JeI's networks in the region. Earlier, on November 12, the Anantnag police had conducted a similar search operation targeting the same network. Furthermore, on November 20, the State Investigation Agency (SIA) also searched the offices of the 'Kashmir Times' newspaper in Jammu as part of its investigations.
