Railways Raises AC Waiting List Limit to 60%
New Delhi
The Railway Ministry has issued a new order increasing the waiting list limit for AC classes to 60%. The move aims to accommodate more passengers during peak travel seasons, ensuring better utilization of available capacity.
In a new order issued on Saturday, the Railway Ministry has increased the waiting list limit of passengers from 25 percent to 60 percent for all AC categories and 30 percent for non-AC categories.
The order to limit the waiting list of passengers of all categories to 25 percent was originally issued to all zones as well as the Center for Railway Information System (CRIS) on April 17. CRIS then amended the reservation system and implemented it from June 16.
A senior official of the ministry, on condition of anonymity, said that just 12 days after implementing the order to limit the waiting list of total seats/berths of travel classes to 25 percent, the ministry realized its mistake and almost withdrew its decision.
The circular issued by the Railway Ministry on Saturday said that the matter has been reviewed and in place of the instruction of April 17, it has been decided that the present maximum limit of waiting list will be revised to 60 per cent and 30 per cent of the total capacity for AC and non-AC categories respectively.
