Ravindra Jadeja named vice-captain, no place for Karun Nair, Devdutt Padikkal returns; India squad for West Indies Test series

West Indies team is coming to play Test series in India after 7 years. The team lost their last series 2-0 in 2018. This series is India's first home series in the current World Test Championship (WTC) cycle, while it's the West Indies' first away series.
The Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced India's squad for the two-match Test series against the West Indies starting on October 2. Shubman Gill will lead the Test team at home with the first Test at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The second Test starts at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on October 10.
Rishabh Pant, who was the vice-captain during England Test series has been rested, as he is recovering from a toe fracture injury. Ravindra Jadeja has been appointed the vice-captain for the two-match series.
Another major talking point is the absence of Karun Nair, he returned to Test cricket after a long break, but only managed to score only 205 runs in eight innings. In his place, Devdutt Padikkal earns a recall; he was part of India's squad for the Border Gavaskar Series.

Shubman Gill (c), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Devdutt Padikall, Dhruv Jurel (wk), Ravindra Jadeja (vc), Washington Sundar, Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel, Nitish Reddy, N Jagadeesan (wk), Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Kuldeep Yadav.
Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has been included in the team, with Mohammed Siraj alongside; the two of them will spearhead India's pace bowling duties. Rishabh Pant, who sustained an injury during the England tour, has been left out of the squad. The wicketkeeper batter has been given time to recuperate from his injury.
In the spin department, Kuldeep Yadav, Washington Sundar, Axar Patel will form a deadly quartet alongside Ravindra Jadeja.
This two-match series between India and the West Indies is part of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27. Currently, India is in third place on the points table.

Six-day camp in Ahmedabad
The West Indies team will hold a six-day camp in Ahmedabad. The visiting team will be training at the Narendra Modi Stadium as they acclimatise to the conditions and pitches in the subcontinent.
The Indian team is expected to begin practice on 29 September, a day after the Asia Cup final. Should the Indian team qualify for the final, players who are part of the Asia Cup squad will travel directly to Bengaluru from Dubai.
