In a major development in the Zubeen Garg death case , five accused — Shyamkanu Mahant, Siddharth Sharma, and PSOs Nandeshwar Bora, Prabin Baishya, and Sandipan Garg — were produced before the court on Wednesday and sent to judicial custody after their police remand ended. The Chief Judicial Magistrate of Kamrup directed authorities to shift them to Baksa Jail in Musalpur , citing safety concerns and overcrowding.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) , formed by the Assam government to probe the mysterious death of the popular singer, continues its inquiry. According to SIT chief Munna Prasad Gupta, the custody of two more accused will end soon, and they will be produced in court on October 17. So far, nine witnesses who accompanied Zubeen to Singapore have testified before the CID, with one more expected to appear.
Zubeen Garg, one of Assam’s most beloved cultural icons, died by drowning in Singapore on September 19 . The tragic incident sparked outrage across the state, leading to more than 60 FIRs filed against Mahant, Sharma, and others.
Meanwhile, Zubeen’s wife, Garima Garg , has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene. “I can’t get Zubeen back, but I have the right to know the truth about his death,” she said, expressing faith in the CID and Assam Police to deliver justice.
Known for his compassion and versatility, Zubeen Garg recorded over 39,000 songs and became the voice of Assamese identity. As fans continue to mourn, Garima’s emotional plea reflects a shared demand — a transparent and fair investigation that uncovers what truly happened to the voice that united millions.
