52 students fall ill after eating contaminated food at Telangana school

At least 52 students of a BC Residential Boys School in Gadwal district, Telangana, fell ill on Friday night after consuming contaminated food in the hostel. The students complained of vomiting and stomach pain shortly after dinner.

Initially, they were given first aid in 108 ambulances, but as their condition worsened, all affected students were shifted to the Government General Hospital (GGH) in Gadwal.

According to hospital officials, the hostel houses around 140 students, of whom 110 had dinner at around 6:30 PM. The menu included cabbage and cauliflower curry with rice. Within a short time, several students began showing symptoms of food poisoning.

Police and health department teams reached the school soon after receiving information and helped transport the students to the hospital. By Saturday morning, 32 students were discharged, while 20 remain under observation. The condition of all the children is reported to be stable.

MLA visits hospital

Alampur MLA Vijayudu visited the hospital on Saturday morning to meet the students and their families. He assured them that proper medical care would be provided and directed officials to take strict preventive measures to ensure such incidents do not happen again.

Samples sent for testing

The District Collector said an inquiry has been launched to determine the cause of the food contamination. Officials suspect that eggs used in the meal may have been spoiled. Samples of the food have been sent for testing, and the District Health Officer along with the Education Department inspected the school’s kitchen and hygiene standards.

Authorities have instructed the school management to strictly monitor food quality and maintain cleanliness in the dining and cooking areas.

Similar incident in July

A similar case of food poisoning was reported in July at a tribal residential school in Nalgonda district, where 35 girl students fell ill after eating half-cooked chickpeas and chicken. While 30 students were discharged after treatment, 5 remained hospitalized for observation.

Health officials have urged all residential schools to conduct regular food safety checks to prevent recurrence of such incidents.
