Delhi Govt to Regulate Private School Fees

Delhi CM Rekha Gupta announced that the government will introduce an Education Bill in the Assembly to regulate fees charged by private schools, aiming to make education more affordable and transparent.

The issue of fee hike in private schools of Delhi is constantly in discussion. To control this, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has announced to introduce the Education Bill. She told that if any school violates the rules of increasing fees, it will have to face a fine.

In the ordinance approved by the Cabinet on 29 April, it has been provided that strict punishment will be imposed on schools that increase fees arbitrarily. Schools will have to pay a fine of up to Rs 1 lakh on the first violation, while on repeated violations this amount can increase from 2 to 10 lakh rupees. Additionally, if the school does not refund the fees within the stipulated time, the fine will be doubled after 20 days and after 40 days it will be tripled. Thus, the amount of fine will keep increasing at an interval of every 20 days.
