Germany Rejects Trump’s Call on India

Foreign Minister Johann Wadeful refuses sanctions appeal, says ties with India will grow stronger.

Johann Wadephul On Germany-India Relation: US President Donald Trump's tariff war has changed the geopolitics of the whole world. A camp of various countries including India is being formed against the US tariff. US President Donald Trump had also appealed to European countries to impose sanctions on India. The European country Germany has rejected this appeal of Trump by showing the mirror. German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, who is on a visit to India, said that India is a major partner in the Indo-Pacific region. Our relations are close politically, economically and culturally. Germany will further strengthen friendship with India.
The German Foreign Minister said that as the world's most populous country and the largest democracy, India's voice is important, which is heard even beyond the strategically important Indo-Pacific region. That is why I am traveling today for talks in Bengaluru and New Delhi. He further said that India is playing a decisive role in shaping the international system of this century. We are natural partners in it as democracies. We want and should maintain the rule-based international system together in view of the huge geopolitical challenges. We will strengthen it further.

This development has come at a time when India has strongly objected to the 50% tariff imposed by President Donald Trump. India put the Western countries in the dock by saying that China is the largest oil buyer of Russia and Europe is also constantly buying energy products from Moscow, but both have never had to face the tariff treatment that India is facing.

Donald Trump had appealed

Let us tell you that the White House had appealed to the European countries to impose the same kind of sanctions on India as the US has imposed. These include the ban that Europe should immediately stop all purchases of oil and gas from India. The Trump administration wants Europe to impose secondary tariffs on India just as the US has warned that India would face tougher punitive duties if it did not stop buying oil from Russia.
