Kolkata Heavy Rain Video: Kolkata is flooded on the very first day of Navratri. Torrential rains throughout the night have disrupted normal life. Many areas of the city are submerged, and traffic has come to a halt. Due to heavy rains in Kolkata, roads are flooded with up to 3 feet of water. The Howrah station yard is also flooded, affecting trains. Metro services have been suspended between Shaheed Khudiram and Maidan metro stations. Over 250 mm of rain fell in the city in the past six hours, leaving many parts knee-deep in water.
A total of five people have died due to electrocution so far. These deaths occurred in Niapukur, Kalikapur, Netaji Nagar, Gariahat, and Iqbalpur. A Kolkata Metro Railway spokesperson stated that the number of trains has been reduced between Dakshineswar and Maidan stations. Heavy rains in Howrah have submerged railway tracks and shops.
Waterlogging in Howrah and Sealdah Yards and Car Sheds
Following torrential rain overnight, waterlogging was observed at various locations in the Howrah Station Yard, Sealdah South Station Yard, Chitpur North Cabin, various car sheds, and Sealdah Yard. Railway lines across the Howrah and Sealdah divisions are flooded. Water pumps have been installed at several locations to drain out the accumulated water, but due to flooding from the surrounding civil area, water is flowing back into the railway yard, causing further problems.
