Air India CEO's big statement has come out on Ahmedabad plane crash. Air India Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Campbell Wilson said on Thursday (19 June 2025) that the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner that crashed in Ahmedabad was well maintained. The aircraft was last thoroughly examined in June 2023 and the next check was to be done in December 2025. No problem was seen before the flight.
Wilson further said that its right engine was repaired in March 2025 and the left engine was checked in April 2025. Both the aircraft and the engine were regularly checked, which did not show any problem before the flight.
Air India CEO said that the airline as well as the entire aviation industry is waiting for the official investigation report to know the cause of this tragedy. He said that as a confidence building measure, the airline is further increasing pre-flight safety checks of its Boeing 787 and 777 fleet.
Decision to cut international flights
In a message to passengers, the Air India chief also said that the 15 per cent reduction in the operations of the company's large aircraft fleet for the next few weeks is a temporary step. Wilson said that keeping in mind the time taken in these additional checks and the possible impact on flight operations, Air India has decided to cut its international flights with large aircraft by about 15 per cent from June 20 to mid-July.
He said, "This will help us keep more aircraft ready to deal with any problem. We understand that this temporary reduction in our flight operations may affect your travel plans. We deeply regret any inconvenience.
Wilson said that the company is fully committed to making every possible effort to help the families affected by this tragedy and is working closely with the authorities to find out the causes of this plane crash. “Our condolences are with all those affected by this loss,” he said.
