Former Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener Arvind Kejriwal has been allotted a new official bungalow at 95 Lodhi Estate, classified as a Type-7 bungalow. The AAP had earlier requested a Type-8 bungalow for its leader.
Kejriwal resigned as Delhi CM on September 17, 2025, after AAP lost the Assembly elections last year.
On October 4, he vacated the CM House at 6, Flag Staff Marg, moving with his family to bungalow number 5 on Ferozeshah Road, which was allotted to Ashok Mittal, AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP from Punjab.
There is no provision for government accommodation for former chief ministers in Delhi. Following his resignation, the AAP approached the court seeking alternative official accommodation for Kejriwal.
Subsequently, the Directorate of Estates, under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) and the Central Public Works Department (CPWD), allotted him the bungalow at Lodhi Estate.
Unlike other states, Delhi does not have an official residence for its Chief Ministers. Historically, Delhi CMs have lived in government bungalows chosen according to personal convenience.
· 1993: Madan Lal Khurana – 33 Shamnath Marg
· Sahib Singh Verma – 9 Shamnath Marg
· Sheila Dikshit – AB-17 Mathura Road (first term) and 3 Motilal Nehru Marg (second term)
After stepping down, former CMs usually return to ancestral, private, or rented homes, with no separate housing allowance provided.
Before entering politics, Kejriwal lived in Kaushambi, Ghaziabad. As CM in December 2013, he initially stayed on Tilak Lane, Central Delhi. Following AAP’s 2015 majority win, he shifted to the residence at 6, Flag Staff Marg in Civil Lines.
Currently, Kejriwal continues as AAP President and MLA from New Delhi, while Delhi MLAs do not receive official bungalows for residence.
