Assam CM calls Gaurav Gogoi ‘100% Pakistani agent’; claims to have evidence
Digital Desk
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday accused Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi of being “100% a Pakistani agent,” alleging that he was planted in India by a foreign power. “The day I reveal the evidence, everyone will agree that he is a hundred percent Pakistani agent,” Sarma said.
Challenging Gogoi to file a defamation case if the claim was false, Sarma said he was withholding the evidence for now to avoid allegations that he was diverting attention from the ongoing probe into singer Zubeen Garg’s death.
Earlier, the CM had alleged that Gogoi’s wife, Elizabeth, receives a salary from a Pakistan-based NGO while residing in India. He also claimed that Gogoi’s wife and children are not Indian citizens and questioned whether the Congress leader had visited Pakistan for 15 days.
Row that began with coal scam probe turns personal
The dispute between the two leaders began in April during the probe into alleged illegal coal mining in Assam. Gogoi had claimed that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) unearthed a large-scale coal scam in the state, recovering ₹1.58 crore in cash and revealing fake billing operations. He alleged that around 1,200 tonnes of coal were being illegally mined daily under the CM’s watch.
Responding to these charges, Sarma said, “On one hand, Rahul Gandhi and his group call the ED a political tool, and on the other hand, their Deputy Leader praises it. This hypocrisy shows Congress’s internal confusion.”
Gaurav Gogoi married Elizabeth in 2013.
Himanta’s eight key allegations against Gogoi, his wife, and Ali Taukir Sheikh
-
Ali Taukir Sheikh has served on committees formed by the Pakistan government.
-
Sheikh was in contact with Elizabeth Gogoi, a British national and wife of MP Gaurav Gogoi.
-
Sheikh had unrestricted access to the Chief Minister’s residence when Gaurav’s father, Tarun Gogoi, was Assam’s CM.
-
Sarma questioned whether ISI tried to infiltrate the CMO during Tarun Gogoi’s tenure.
-
Elizabeth has not acquired Indian citizenship even after 12 years of marriage to an Indian citizen.
-
Sheikh was once Elizabeth’s supervisor.
-
Despite being a British citizen, Elizabeth allegedly participated in India’s electoral process — a matter Sarma urged the Centre to investigate.
-
Sarma also claimed that Assam has historically been a hotspot for ISI and terror networks active in Bangladesh and Pakistan.
