Digital Desk
A family from Bihar’s Sheikhpura district was brutally murdered in Chennai, with the bodies of a 28-year-old man and his one-and-a-half-year-old son recovered from separate locations, while police continue to search for the missing wife. Chennai Police have arrested five people in connection with the crime, including a relative from the woman’s maternal side.
The deceased have been identified as Gaurav Yadav, his wife Moni Kumari, and their minor son Guddu, also known as Veermani. The family hailed from Pathlafar village under the Sheikhpura Town police station area. Gaurav’s body was brought back to the village on Wednesday evening, triggering scenes of grief and outrage among residents.
According to Chennai Police, Gaurav Yadav’s body was found mutilated and stuffed inside a sack dumped at a garbage site in Indira Nagar under the Adyar police station limits. The body of the child was later recovered from the Kooum river near Central Kailash. Police believe Moni Kumari’s body may have been dumped at the Perungudi dumping yard, where search operations are ongoing.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the family had travelled to Chennai shortly after Makar Sankranti. Gaurav had been working as a security guard at a hospital in the Adyar area for the past four years. On January 16, he returned to Chennai from his in-laws’ home in Nalanda district, accompanied by his wife and child. This was the first time his family had joined him in the city.
Family members said the trio had been untraceable for two to three days before Chennai Police informed Gaurav’s father about the killing on January 25. Gaurav’s elder brother, who also lives in Chennai, subsequently confirmed the deaths.
Police have arrested five suspects, including Upendra Yadav, a resident of a village near Moni Kumari’s maternal home. Investigators say the accused was known to the family and had allegedly facilitated their move to Chennai. Based on information provided during interrogation, police recovered the bodies of the father and child.
While the exact motive is still under investigation, police sources said there was no immediate evidence of old enmity. Some officers are examining the possibility of a personal relationship dispute, though no official conclusion has been drawn. CCTV footage from the area where Gaurav’s body was found reportedly shows two individuals transporting and dumping a sack on a motorcycle.
Authorities said questioning is underway to establish the sequence of events and the role of each accused. Police are also coordinating with Bihar authorities as the investigation widens.
