Bomb Threat Email Triggers Security Alert Ahead of PM Modi’s Punjab Visit; Four Jalandhar Schools Named

Security agencies in Punjab were placed on high alert on Friday after bomb threat emails were sent to four schools in Jalandhar, a day ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to the state. The emails, which referenced the Prime Minister’s programme, prompted immediate searches, though no suspicious objects were found, police said.

The first threat was received by Cambridge School, followed by similar emails sent to KMV Sanskriti School near Pathankot Chowk, British Oliva School, and CJS Public School. Police teams from Thana-7 Urban Estate, along with bomb disposal squads and other security agencies, conducted thorough checks at all four locations. Officials confirmed that the threats appeared non-specific and no explosives were recovered.

The email, sent under the name “Billi Hall,” made direct reference to the Prime Minister’s visit and named Dera Sachkhand Ballan as the alleged target. Investigators said the contents are being treated seriously given the timing, though no immediate danger has been established. A case has been registered, and cyber teams are tracing the origin of the email.blast

All schools in Jalandhar remained closed on Friday due to a procession marking Guru Ravidas Maharaj’s birth anniversary, which helped prevent panic and ensured student safety during the checks.

Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to arrive in Punjab on February 1 and visit Dera Sachkhand Ballan in Jalandhar, where he is expected to pay obeisance. During the visit, he will also announce the renaming of Adampur Airport after Guru Ravidas Ji Maharaj. BJP leaders said the Prime Minister is likely to remain in Jalandhar for around 40 minutes, including a public address and meetings with religious and party leaders.

Ahead of the visit, Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav inspected security arrangements in Jalandhar and reviewed route security, crowd management, and surveillance measures. Special Protection Group (SPG) personnel have been deployed at Dera Ballan and along all movement corridors from Adampur Airport.bomb

The Additional District Magistrate has declared Jalandhar a no-flying zone from January 30 to February 1 under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, prohibiting drones, helicopters, and other aerial devices. Traffic diversions have also been implemented, particularly on the Jalandhar–Pathankot National Highway, due to expected large gatherings for Guru Ravidas Jayanti and VIP movement.

Police officials said security will remain tight until the Prime Minister’s departure, urging citizens to cooperate with restrictions and report any suspicious activity.
