Bomb Threat Emails Target 11 Courts Across Seven States, Security Tightened Nationwide

At least 11 courts across seven Indian states received bomb threat emails on Thursday, triggering widespread panic, evacuation of judicial premises, and heightened security measures, officials said. The threats, received through anonymous emails, prompted immediate action by police and bomb disposal squads, though no explosives have been found so far.

The threats affected courts in Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Kerala, disrupting judicial work and forcing the suspension of proceedings in several locations. Police agencies have launched coordinated investigations to trace the source of the emails, which authorities believe may be part of a hoax, though no possibility has been ruled out.

In Punjab, district courts in Ferozepur, Moga, and Rupnagar received threatening emails sent to the official email IDs of District and Sessions Judges. Court complexes were evacuated immediately, parking areas cleared, and police along with dog squads conducted thorough searches. A similar alert was issued at the Himachal Pradesh High Court, causing panic among lawyers, litigants, and court staff.

In Bihar, bomb threats were reported at Patna Civil Court, Patna City Court, Kishanganj Civil Court, and Gayaji Civil Court. The email claimed that three RDX bombs had been planted and would explode by 2:30 pm. Following the alert, all court work was suspended, entry was sealed, and prisoners, witnesses, and visitors were sent back as police teams combed the premises.

A bomb threat was also received at the Rajnandgaon District Court in Chhattisgarh, where security was tightened and court proceedings halted. Officials said the threat email was sent to the District and Sessions Judge, after which judges, lawyers, and staff were safely evacuated.

In Madhya Pradesh, panic gripped the Rewa District Court after an email threatening to blow up the newly constructed court building was received early in the morning, mentioning a specific deadline. Police and administrative officials conducted extensive searches.

Meanwhile, the Kasaragod District Court in Kerala received a similar threat via email. The bomb disposal squad was deployed, and police said no suspicious object had been found so far. A case will be registered if the threat is confirmed to be a hoax.

Senior police officials said cyber teams are analysing email headers and digital footprints. Security has been tightened at courts nationwide amid concerns over a pattern of coordinated threats.
