Centre Withdraws CRPF 'Z' Security of CM Rekha Gupta

The Central government has removed CM Rekha Gupta’s CRPF ‘Z’ category security cover. Her security responsibility will now be handled by Delhi Police.

The Central Government has withdrawn the 'Z' category security of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) given to Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. This security was provided after the attack on her a few days ago. Official sources informed on Monday that now the responsibility of the Chief Minister's security has been handed over to Delhi Police again.

It is worth noting that on August 20, during the public hearing program organized at the Chief Minister's office in Civil Lines, a person from Gujarat attacked Rekha Gupta. After this, the central government had decided to give her CRPF's Z security cover as a precaution. However, now this security has been withdrawn by changing the plan.

After the attack on her on August 20, the central government had decided to increase her security. The very next day of the attack, the Union Home Ministry had issued instructions to the VIP Security Wing of the CRPF to provide her security under the Centre's 'Z' category security protocol. However, a few days later, the Centre withdrew this security and once again handed over the responsibility to the Delhi Police. According to sources, a formal order was yet to be issued regarding the deployment of the CRPF, but the plan was changed before that. Now the CM's security is again completely in the hands of the Delhi Police.

Sources said that the order to increase CRPF security was to be formally issued by the Centre, but the plan was changed midway and orders were issued to withdraw the security. But a few days later, this responsibility of security has again been handed over to the Delhi Police.

In the investigation of the attack on Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the police have so far arrested two people. This includes the main accused, 41-year-old Rajeshbhai Khimji Sakaria, who hails from Rajkot, Gujarat. It is noteworthy that Rekha Gupta was attacked during the 'Jan Sunwai' program organized at the Chief Minister's Office in Civil Lines on August 20. The Chief Minister's Office had described this incident as a "well-planned conspiracy to murder" her.
