Confident Group Chairman CJ Roy Found Dead in Bengaluru, Police Suspect Suicide

CJ Roy, founder and chairman of Kerala-based real estate firm Confident Group, was found dead at his Bengaluru office on Friday, raising suspicions of suicide, police said. Authorities are awaiting post-mortem results to confirm the cause of death.

According to Bengaluru police, Roy suffered gunshot injuries from his licensed firearm at his office near Richmond Circle. Staff reportedly heard a gunshot and rushed to his room, finding him lying in a pool of blood. He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

“Initial investigation suggests a case of suicide, but the exact cause will be confirmed after the post-mortem report,” a senior police officer said. Sources also indicated that the Income Tax Department had conducted raids at his premises earlier, though no direct link to the incident has been established.

CJ Roy was a prominent figure in India’s real estate sector, leading the Confident Group to national and international recognition. The firm is known for executing large-scale projects without bank loans, a model Roy described as a “zero-debt” approach.

Beyond real estate, Roy had ventured into film and television production. He produced the 2012 big-budget film Casanova and contributed to the 2021 Mohanlal-starrer Marakkar: Lion of the Arabian Sea. Last year, he was involved in producing the Tovino Thomas-starrer Identity. Roy was also known for his collection of luxury cars and active participation in social welfare initiatives.

Industry peers described him as an ambitious entrepreneur who consistently sought to expand his company’s footprint while maintaining financial discipline. “Roy had a unique approach to real estate, focusing on sustainable growth and debt-free projects,” said a senior executive from the industry.

The Bengaluru police have cordoned off the office and are examining the scene for evidence. Forensic teams have collected ballistic and other material to assist the investigation. Family members have been informed, and officials are coordinating with them for further inquiry.

CJ Roy’s sudden death has shocked the business and film communities, prompting condolences from colleagues, actors, and business leaders across India. The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities stressing that no conclusions will be drawn until post-mortem and other forensic analyses are complete.
