Delhi Bus Stations to Get Airport-Like Makeover
Rekha government unveils a special plan to modernize Delhi's bus stations with airport-like facilities, aiming to provide world-class transportation services to commuters.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has announced that the government has decided to modernize the inter-state bus terminals of the capital, which include Kashmiri Gate, Sarai Kale Khan and Anand Vihar ISBT. After a high-level meeting held at the Secretariat, the CM said that these bus stations will be developed in a convenient and attractive form for the passengers like airports. Necessary steps are being taken to provide all the necessary modern facilities.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that the arrival of electric buses in Delhi has expanded the services of DTC, but due to the old routes of these buses, they are not able to serve all the passengers. Our government has developed a new route in collaboration with IIT Delhi, which will not only cover small areas of Delhi, but will also connect the passengers to Delhi Metro. The experiment of this scheme will soon be started in Yamunapar, after which it will be implemented all over Delhi. Currently, 660 small and 1800 large electric buses are operating under DTC, while the total EV fleet consists of 4800 buses.
The Chief Minister said that the government is planning to make all the bus queue shelters in Delhi modern and convenient for the passengers. Display screens will be installed in these shelters, which will provide information about bus routes and timetables to the passengers. There are a total of 4627 bus queue shelters in Delhi, out of which 2021 are active. Of these, 1580 shelters are made of steel and 250 are old. The Chief Minister also said that the Transport Department has studied the bus queue shelters of the country and some other countries, and some shelters have been selected according to different regions. All these shelters will be built on the PPP model and it will be ensured that they are powered by solar energy.
