Dharmendra Pradhan Targets CJP Over NEET Row, Accuses Opposition of Creating Panic Among Students

The Union Education Minister defended the conduct of the NEET re-examination and alleged that opposition groups attempted to politicize the paper leak controversy ahead of the test.

As the political debate surrounding the NEET paper leak controversy intensifies, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has launched a sharp attack on the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) and opposition leaders, accusing them of spreading fear among students and undermining confidence in the examination system. The minister described the CJP as the “B team of disruptive elements” and claimed that certain political groups were attempting to exploit the issue for political gains rather than focusing on solutions.

His remarks come amid continued protests over the alleged NEET paper leak and demands from opposition parties and student groups seeking accountability from the Education Ministry and examination authorities.

Opposition Under Fire

Speaking in a television interview, Pradhan alleged that individuals rejected by democratic processes had returned “in disguise” and were now targeting national institutions. He claimed that such groups often support narratives that weaken public trust in the country's systems and institutions.

The minister also criticized Rahul Gandhi for holding a rally in Kota shortly before the NEET re-examination. According to Pradhan, opposition leaders had every right to raise questions, but attempting to create anxiety among students days before a crucial examination was irresponsible.

He argued that the timing of the campaign risked affecting students’ confidence and could have disrupted the smooth conduct of the re-examination.

Government Defends Re-Examination

Pradhan described the June 21 NEET re-examination as a successful exercise conducted in response to the paper leak reported earlier. He said authorities took corrective measures to ensure fairness and transparency, allowing students to take the exam under improved security arrangements.

The minister emphasized that the government remains committed to protecting the integrity of competitive examinations. He also expressed concern over reports that some educators were allegedly involved in the paper leak network, stating that individuals entrusted with safeguarding students' futures had instead betrayed that responsibility.

Debate Over Student Suicides

During the interview, Pradhan also addressed the sensitive issue of student suicides. He accused political opponents of using photographs and cases of students who died by suicide for political purposes.

According to the minister, turning personal tragedies into campaign material represents a troubling trend in public discourse. He further alleged that opposition parties had focused more on criticism than on offering practical recommendations to strengthen the examination system.

However, opposition leaders have argued that growing academic pressure, concerns over examination integrity, and recurring controversies in competitive tests require urgent policy attention and greater accountability from authorities.

Abu Dhabi Examination Centre Controversy

Pradhan also responded to questions regarding the controversy surrounding an examination centre initially allotted in Abu Dhabi. He stated that the student's father had requested the centre and that the National Testing Agency (NTA) acted promptly after concerns were raised.

According to the minister, the agency shifted the examination centre to Nagpur within hours of identifying the issue. He claimed that once the facts became public, opposition leaders stopped aggressively pursuing the matter.
