Dr. Bhargav Mallappa Meets MoS Prof. S. P. Singh Baghel to Discuss Fishermen’s Welfare

Focus on Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh

Dr. Bhargav Mallappa, National Deputy Chairman of the People Forum of India – National Bharat Sevak Samaj (NBSS), met with Prof. S. P. Singh Baghel, Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, at his New Delhi office today.

The discussions revolved around strengthening the welfare and livelihoods of fishermen in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh. Dr. Mallappa emphasized the need for modern infrastructure, improved market access, and sustainable fishing practices to uplift coastal and inland communities. He noted, “Fishermen form the backbone of our coastal economy. Their progress through skill development, advanced technology, and equitable resource access is essential for both economic growth and social justice.”

Minister Baghel appreciated these suggestions and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the fisheries sector. He highlighted ongoing initiatives to integrate modern aquaculture methods, expand financial inclusion, and ensure ecological balance in the sector.

Both leaders acknowledged that despite progress, challenges such as livelihood security, increasing operational costs, and safety concerns at sea remain pressing issues. They agreed that state-specific strategies, coupled with regular monitoring, will be vital in improving the lives of fishing communities across the southern states.
