Draft Voter List for SIR to Be Released in Tamil Nadu and Gujarat
Digital Desk
The Election Commission (EC) will release the draft voter list for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Tamil Nadu and Gujarat on Friday, allowing citizens to verify their names and details. SIR is part of the nationwide voter verification and update process initiated from October 28, 2025, in 12 states and union territories.
Earlier, on December 16, the EC released draft voter lists for West Bengal, Rajasthan, Goa, Lakshadweep, and Puducherry. According to official data, the total number of registered voters in these states and UTs stood at 133.5 million during the SIR announcement on October 27. The draft lists now show 123.3 million voters, indicating a removal of 10.2 million names. West Bengal alone saw 5.82 million names marked for deletion due to reasons including deceased voters, relocations, duplicates, or other discrepancies. Rajasthan recorded 4.185 million deletions, while Puducherry saw 85,000 names removed.
Once the draft lists are published, voters can add missing names, correct errors, or file objections within the prescribed period. The second phase of SIR will continue until February 2026, with the final voter list scheduled for release on February 14, 2026.
The EC has issued detailed guidelines for re-adding names using Form-6, available at Booth Level Officer (BLO) offices, Tehsil or SDM offices, and online on the Commission’s website. Applicants must submit identification documents such as Aadhaar, PAN, or passport, proof of address, and proof of age. Verification will be conducted by BLOs, and hearings may be held if clarification is needed.
The SIR exercise ensures the integrity of the electoral rolls by removing outdated or duplicate entries and adding new voters. The Commission has urged all citizens to check their names promptly to avoid exclusion from the updated voter list ahead of upcoming elections.
This comprehensive process aims to strengthen the accuracy of electoral rolls and facilitate seamless participation in the democratic process.
