The EAGLE team seized substantial quantities of contraband during their raid on Saturday, recovering 7.8 kilograms of Alprazolam worth crores in the illegal market. Along with the drugs, authorities confiscated Rs.21 lakh in cash, which represented proceeds from just two days of sales.

The arrested individuals include Malela Jaya Prakash Goud (39), the school owner and mastermind from Mahabubnagar district, along with driver P. Uday Sai (23) and drug transporter G. Murali (23). Police investigations revealed that Goud had been operating this illegal enterprise for approximately six months.

Sophisticated Operation Within School Premises

The drug manufacturing unit was strategically concealed within the school building, with regular classes conducted on ground and first floors while illegal production occurred on the second floor. Investigators discovered a fully equipped chemistry laboratory featuring eight reactors and dryers designed for large-scale Alprazolam production.

Police reports indicate that Goud deliberately maintained normal school operations with around 110 students to avoid suspicion. The manufacturing schedule followed a systematic pattern - production occurred Monday through Saturday, with distribution taking place on Sundays.

Criminal Network and Distribution

Goud established contact with an associate named Guruvareddy through an intermediary called Shekar approximately one year ago. Guruvareddy provided the technical expertise and chemical formulation necessary for Alprazolam synthesis.

The distribution network extended far beyond Hyderabad, with authorities confirming supply chains reaching Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu. The primary customers were toddy depots in villages around Boothpur in Mahabubnagar district, where Alprazolam was used to adulterate traditional alcoholic beverages.

Legal Context and Enforcement Action

Alprazolam is classified as a banned psychotropic substance under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in Telangana. The drug, primarily prescribed for anxiety and panic disorders, has significant abuse potential and is frequently misused in the illegal alcohol trade.

The Telangana Drug Control Administration has previously taken strict action against pharmaceutical companies, including canceling Mylan Laboratories' Alprazolam manufacturing license in February 2024 following unauthorized diversion of 21.25 kilograms of the substance.

EAGLE officials emphasized the gravity of conducting such operations within educational premises, highlighting potential health and safety hazards to students and faculty. The investigation continues as authorities work to identify additional accomplices and expand their understanding of the broader distribution network.
