Two young researchers from the Philippines have secured top positions in regional science competitions after presenting well-structured scientific studies guided by Indian researcher Dr. Akhilesh Vats. Their projects, evaluated for clarity, methodological precision, and scientific relevance, have now advanced to the next stages of national-level competition in the Philippines.
In the first case, Clyde Vincent Perez and his group from BNHS – Regional Science High School for MIMAROPA earned the Regional Science and Technology Fair – Champion title for their work in the field of cancer research.
The team conducted a controlled in-vitro study using human colorectal cancer cells (HCT 116), focusing on cell response, viability, and analytical observations relevant to cancer behavior.
Judges noted the strong scientific approach, data consistency, and well-organized presentation of the findings. The project is now set to compete at the National Science and Technology Fair (NSTF 2026).
Similarly, Arvin Milay from Bucal National Integrated School won the 1st Place / Champion award in the Life Science category.
He stated that the scientific direction he received significantly strengthened the structure and clarity of his research, enabling him to present his results confidently before the evaluation panel.
Speaking to Jagran, Dr. Akhilesh Vats emphasized the importance of providing accurate scientific orientation to young learners. According to him, school-level researchers in Asian countries possess exceptional scientific potential, and the right guidance can prepare them for international scientific platforms in a more competitive manner.
Teachers and mentors associated with the Filipino schools said that the scientific guidance offered to the students played a key role in refining their research methods and improving the scientific quality of their final presentations. Letters of appreciation from both student teams are available as official confirmation of their statements.
These achievements demonstrate how global scientific collaboration is enabling school-level researchers to engage in high-quality research work. The involvement of Indian scientist Dr. Akhilesh Vats has contributed to strengthening the scientific foundation of these young Filipino researchers as they move forward toward national-level and international-level competitions.
