Foreign Minister launches Passport Seva 2.0 with faster e-passport process
New Delhi
The new Passport Seva 2.0 initiative introduces e-passports with enhanced security and efficiency. The streamlined application process reduces delays, and digital police verification ensures faster clearance for applicants.
Until a few years ago, having a passport was a big deal in itself. Mostly only those who traveled by air used to take the trouble of getting a passport. But now it is very common for everyone to have a passport. From air travel to residence certificate and identity card, passport proves to be very helpful. This is the reason why the demand for passports is also increasing rapidly in the country.
At the same time, the government has also decided to issue Passport 2.0 to keep the passport data safe. On 24 June 2025, during the 13th Passport Seva Diwas, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar also launched Passport Seva 2.0, which has made it very easy to get a passport.
The Ministry of External Affairs has started the Passport Seva Program for passports, under which one can apply for a passport from home. In this era of digital world, the government has also started issuing e-passports (passport 2.0). The e-passport has a chip and it is also tamper proof.
Benefits of e-passport
With the help of e-passport, foreign travel will be easy. This will make people wait less at the airport and it will also become easier for them to travel from one country to another.
The personal data of the users will be safe in the chip installed in the e-passport, so that no one will be able to tamper with the data even if they want to.
The personal and biometric information of the passport holder will also be stored safely in the chip.
The e-passport meets the rules of ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization). In such a situation, this passport will be valid all over the world.
Police verification also became easy
After applying for a passport, people have to go through the police verification process. In such a situation, people living in remote areas take months to get a passport. For this, the Ministry of External Affairs has launched the mPassport Police App. With the help of this app, police verification can be completed in just 5-7 days.
