Former J&K Governor Satyapal Malik Dies at 79

Former Governor Satyapal Malik rose to prominence for opposing Article 370 revocation and criticizing the Modi government; shared strong political roots in Uttar Pradesh.

Former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satyapal Malik has passed away today. Satyapal Malik was ill for the last several days. He was undergoing treatment at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in Delhi. Information about Malik's death was given on his official Twitter handle. According to official information, Satyapal Malik had kidney problems. He had made a lot of headlines for his outspoken opinion on many national issues including corruption, agricultural movement.

Satyapal Malik was born on 24 July 1946 in Baghpat district. He did his graduation in science and LLB degree from Meerut University. He was interested in politics since his student life. While being the president of the student union, he made a special identity and was elected as a member of the Legislative Assembly for the first time in 1974. After this, he went to Rajya Sabha from UP during 1980 to 86 and 86-89.

Satyapal Malik was not only a member of Rajya Sabha but also of Lok Sabha. He played a long innings as a politician in the Bharatiya Janata Party. Apart from BJP, he also had a relationship with Bharatiya Kranti Dal, Indian National Congress, Janata Dal, Lok Dal and Samajwadi Party. He was an MP from Aligarh seat from Janata Dal from 1989 to 1991.

Satyapal Malik contested elections from Samajwadi Party in 1996 but had to face defeat. Satyapal Malik was the Governor of Bihar state from 30 September 2017 to 21 August (Who was Satyapal Malik?). He was appointed as the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir on 21 August 2018.
