Fresh Tensions Erupt in Manipur Over State Name Removal

Manipur witnessed renewed unrest as angry crowds protested the removal of the state's name from a national bus network. Clashes broke out between demonstrators and security forces near the Raj Bhavan, triggering a wave of political and public condemnation. The situation remains tense as calls grow for immediate clarification and accountability.

Tension has once again arisen in the northeastern state of Manipur, which has been burning in the fire of violence for the last two years. People are angry over the removal of the state's name from the bus network. On Sunday, hundreds of protesters marched towards the Raj Bhavan over the controversial issue related to the identity of the state. Security forces tried to stop the protesters near Kangla Gate, leading to clashes and tear gas shells were fired, in which more than five women were injured.

This demonstration was held on the call of COCOMI (Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity). The protesters said that the governor is disregarding the sentiments of the people with his silence. He and his administration have insulted the historical and cultural heritage of the state while administering the state. The inquiry commission formed by the government to investigate the incident is not enough and nothing has been mentioned about punishing those involved, which is unacceptable. COCOMI has warned that if immediate action is not taken on this issue, a massive agitation will be carried out across the state.

The protesters took out a 500-metre long march from the Khwairamband area of Imphal, but were stopped about 150 metres before the Raj Bhavan. After this, the situation became tense and the police used force to disperse the crowd.
