India Blocks Global Times' X Account Over Chinese Propaganda

Government Cites National Security Concerns Amid Rising Tensions

India Blocks Global Times' X Account Over Chinese Propaganda

On May 14, 2025, the Indian government ordered the blocking of the official X (formerly Twitter) account of China's state-run media outlet, Global Times, citing national security concerns. The move follows allegations that the outlet disseminated unverified and misleading information about the Indian armed forces, particularly regarding the downing of Indian fighter jets by Pakistan. This action reflects India's increasing vigilance against foreign propaganda amid escalating tensions with neighboring countries

After the Pahalgam attack, India had banned many government ex accounts of Pakistan and the accounts of actors and actresses there in India. Now India has tightened the screws on China and the ex account of Chinese propaganda outlet Global Times, which spreads propaganda in the country, was banned in India. 26 people were killed in the Pahalgam attack.

The central government on Wednesday banned China's government ex handle for spreading unconfirmed claims on the Indian Army.

This ban has been imposed at a time when a few days ago the Indian Embassy in China had strictly warned the media outlet to verify the facts before posting on social media.

The embassy said in a post on the ex, "Global TimesNews, we would advise you to verify your facts and check your sources before forwarding such misinformation.
