India warns citizens against joining Russian army

The Government of India has issued a strict advisory for Indian citizens not to fall prey to any offer to join the Russian army. The Ministry of External Affairs tweeted that accepting any such offer is a path full of danger. The government said that Indians recruited in the Russian army are being used in the Ukraine war. In view of this danger, the government made it clear that complete distance should be maintained from such offers. Apart from this, India has also appealed to Russia to return those Indian citizens who have joined its army after being deceived.

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a conversation with the media on Thursday that Indian citizens should stay away from any offer of recruitment in the Russian army, as there are serious dangers in it. Jaiswal said, "We have recently seen reports of recruitment of Indian citizens in the Russian army. The government has warned several times in the last one year about the risks and dangers inherent in such action and cautioned people to stay away from it." Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal further said that the matter has been raised with Russian officials in both Delhi and Moscow. He said that India has requested Russia to end this recruitment practice and send back the Indian citizens who have joined. Jaiswal also said that the government is in constant touch with the families of the affected Indian citizens and once again urged all citizens to stay away from any offer to join the Russian army, as it is a path full of danger.

It is worth noting that the Russian army has been active in the Ukraine war for more than three years, and during this time reports of recruitment of Indian citizens have been coming out from time to time. The families of Indian citizens recruited in the Russian army say that after recruitment in the army they are not allowed to return.
