Jaipur Hosts First Full Dress Rehearsal for Army Day Parade; Traffic Diversions Implemented

Jaipur on Friday hosted the first full dress rehearsal of the Army Day Parade, marking a historic moment as the event is being organised outside a traditional Army cantonment for the first time. The rehearsal took place on Mahal Road in Jagatpura and featured the complete parade format, including marching contingents, advanced weapon systems, and aerial displays, ahead of the main Army Day celebrations scheduled for January 15.

The rehearsal showcased the Indian Army’s operational preparedness and technological capabilities. Marching units from multiple Army battalions participated alongside tanks, missile systems, drones, and other modern military equipment. A helicopter fly-past added to the display, while Army-trained dogs and robot dogs demonstrated their operational roles, highlighting the force’s increasing reliance on modern warfare technologies.

According to Army officials, the full dress rehearsal is a critical phase in the preparation process as it mirrors the final execution of the parade. “This rehearsal allows us to assess coordination, timing, security arrangements, and public access management under real conditions,” an official said.

The parade rehearsal was conducted under tight security. A flag march was carried out by security forces to ensure crowd safety and route preparedness. The event was opened to the public, with registered visitors instructed to arrive at the venue by 8:45 am. Authorities clarified that no entry or exit would be permitted once the programme commenced, in line with security protocols.

Seating arrangements were made opposite the Akshay Patra Temple. Visitors were advised to access the venue through Mahavir Marg and Kendriya Vihar Marg via D-Mart Circle. To facilitate the event, traffic on Mahal Road was diverted between NRI Circle and Bombay Hospital Circle from 5 am to 1 pm. Police and district administration teams were deployed to manage traffic flow and ensure smooth conduct of the rehearsal.

Army Day Parade rehearsals have been underway in Jaipur since January 1. Officials confirmed that two more full dress rehearsals are scheduled for January 11 and January 13 before the final parade on January 15, which will commemorate the founding of the Indian Army in 1949.

The decision to host the Army Day Parade in Jaipur reflects a broader effort to take national military celebrations closer to the public, allowing citizens to witness the Army’s traditions, discipline, and evolving capabilities beyond cantonment boundaries.
