Kishtwar tragedy: Death toll crosses 60, many still missing

In the Kishtwar disaster, one more among the 75 hospitalized has died, raising the toll to over 60. Around 50 people are still missing as rescue operations continue.
More than 50 people attending a religious event have died while more than 100 people have been admitted to the hospital after a sudden cloudburst in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir on August 14. A total of 75 patients were admitted to the Government Medical College (GMC) hospital in the district and one of them died during treatment, while the condition of four others remains 'critical'.
According to official data released from the hospital on Sunday, apart from this, 11 bodies and a body part were also brought to the hospital morgue from Chisoti village affected by the cloudburst, which were handed over to their relatives after completing medical formalities.
According to government data, 61 people, most of whom were devotees, have died due to cloudburst in Chisoti village, which falls on the way to Machail Mata temple. More than 100 people were injured and 50 others went missing in this incident. According to the data, GMC operated on 24 out of 75 patients and one of them (35-year-old Ashok Kumar of Vijaypur area of Samba district) died on August 16.
More than a dozen vehicles were damaged
It is worth noting that this accident happened due to cloudburst in Chashoti, a remote hilly village in Kishtwar district. At the time of the accident, a large number of people had gathered there for the Machail Mata temple yatra. This yatra started on July 25 and was to end on September 5.
4 in critical condition
The hospital said that out of the 47 patients still admitted here, the condition of four is critical. 20 patients were discharged, three absconded and four others left the hospital against medical advice.
