Malegaon Blast Verdict Today After 17 Years

The long-awaited verdict in the 2008 Malegaon bomb blast case will be delivered today by Justice AK Lahoti. BJP MP Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur is among the main accused.
The 17-year wait in the Malegaon bomb blast case will end today. Today the court will pronounce its verdict in the 2008 bomb blast case in Malegaon, Maharashtra. The court is going to pronounce the verdict in this case on the basis of nearly 17 years of investigation, several arrests, statements of witnesses. The special NIA court of Mumbai will pronounce the verdict in this case. Justice AK Lahoti can pronounce his verdict. The court had reserved its verdict on April 19 after completing the hearing and final arguments from the prosecution and the defense.
6 people died in the Malegaon bomb blast while 100 people were injured. There are many accused in the case including Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur. Now the verdict is expected in this case after 17 years.
In fact, in the month of Ramzan in 2008, a big bomb blast took place in Malegaon city of Maharashtra, in which 6 people lost their lives. More than 100 were injured. This explosion took place on 29 September 2008 in the evening at the crowded Bhikku Chowk, near a mosque. The explosion was caused by a bomb fitted in a motorcycle. The blast was so powerful that many houses and shops nearby were also damaged.
Immediately after the blast, Maharashtra ATS started the investigation. In the initial investigation itself, the needle of suspicion turned towards some Hindu organizations. ATS recovered an LML Freedom motorcycle from the blast site. Many arrests were made in this case. Among the main accused in the Malegaon blast were Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, former BJP MP from Bhopal, and Lieutenant Colonel Prasad Shrikant Purohit, a serving officer of the Indian Army. Apart from these, Ramesh Shivaji Upadhyay (Retired Major), Sameer Sharad Kulkarni, Ajay Rahirkar, Sudhakar Dwivedi and Sudhakar Chaturvedi were also made accused.
What did Pragya Thakur's lawyer say
Meanwhile, Pragya Singh Thakur's lawyer Jaiprakash Mishra said that Congress brought the theory of Hindu terrorism in the country and this is why Pragya Thakur and others were targeted in it. The lawyer says that Pragya Singh was treated very cruelly. All this was done by the ATS officials at that time. In this, more than 30 witnesses have changed their statements in which they have told how their statements were forcibly taken by the ATS officials. All this happened under a conspiracy.
