BJP MP Maneka Gandhi welcomed the Supreme Court's decision on stray dogs, expressing her happiness. Several leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, also lauded the judgment.
The Supreme Court changed its old order regarding stray dogs and issued a new directive on Friday (August 22). The court said that the dogs should be released after sterilizing and vaccinating them. Also, a fixed feeding area should be created in every area, so that dogs are not fed anywhere. BJP leader and animal rights activist Maneka Gandhi has welcomed this decision. She said, "I am very happy with this decision. The reason for dog bites is only displacement and fear. There is no question of releasing dogs infected with rabies." Who will be called an aggressive dog? - Maneka Gandhi
Animal rights activist and BJP MP Maneka Gandhi welcomed the decision. He said, "The court has not defined who will be called an aggressive dog, it is necessary to decide this. The order to create a designated feeding area is absolutely correct and the corporations will also have to put up signboards for this." According to the court, municipal corporations will have to establish proper Animal Birth Control (ABC) centers. The central government has also said in Parliament that Rs 2,500 crore is being allocated for this program. This is the first time that such a large budget provision has been made.
What did Maneka Gandhi say on the fine of up to 2 lakhs
BJP MP and animal rights activist Maneka Gandhi has welcomed the recent order of the Supreme Court. She said that the court has made it clear that there is no clear definition of "aggressive dog" and the committee will decide on it further. Giving an example, Maneka Gandhi said, "Sometimes it happens that a person falls on a dog and the dog bites him, whereas before that he has never harmed anyone. In such a case, will he be called aggressive? This is what needs to be decided." He told that the Supreme Court has decided to keep all such cases with itself. Also, the court has directed that if any organization gets involved in this case, then it will have to pay 25 thousand rupees, while a person who gets involved at a personal level will have to pay 2 lakh rupees. Maneka Gandhi said that this decision is important in the direction of animal rights and justice and this will clarify the situation going forward.
At the same time, her son and former MP Varun Gandhi also praised this decision of the Supreme Court. He said, "Today we should express deep gratitude to the Supreme Court. By showing its ability to self-correct, it has shown foresight, sensitivity and true generosity. Every living being is capable of giving blessings. For all those people who raised their voice for the voiceless, hug yourself. You are amazing."
MP Priyanka Chaturvedi said that the Supreme Court has corrected the wrong decision
She described the decision of the Supreme Court as in accordance with human values. Priyanka said, “The previous order was not only inhumane but also against human values. This is not a case of dog lovers versus human life. Municipalities in the country have been shirking their responsibility, but now the Supreme Court has made it clear that stray dogs must be fed, vaccinated and have designated feeding places for them. The earlier wrong decision has now been corrected.”
